Looking forward, not backward.
Brandon Olson, CPA, built Olson Strategic Wealth around a simple observation: most people get investment advice, tax advice, and real estate advice from three different people who never talk to each other. As a CPA with experience as a corporate CFO, Brandon looks at the whole picture first, tax return, retirement accounts, real estate, and asks how each decision affects the others before recommending a next step.
Three disciplines, reviewed together.
Tax awareness
A tax return can provide valuable context for understanding your overall financial picture. Drawing on his background as a CPA, Brandon reviews the details behind income, capital gains, and distributions to understand what’s driving your current tax bill, then considers how those details relate to decisions still ahead of you.
Retirement and investment management
Retirement changes the question from how much you’ve saved to how you use it. Brandon helps clients think through when to draw from which account, how Social Security timing interacts with taxes, and how to sequence withdrawals so one decision does not create an unnecessary tax consequence somewhere else. Portfolios are managed as part of that same plan, so investments, income needs, and taxes are considered together rather than separately.
Real estate planning
Whether it’s a personal residence sale, a cabin passed through the family, or a business succession, real estate transactions carry tax and planning consequences that are easy to miss. Brandon draws on years of real estate and tax experience to help clients understand what a transaction means for their broader financial picture before it happens, not after.
Welcome to Olson Strategic Wealth.
Based in St. George, Utah.
Brandon works with clients across southern Utah from the firm’s office on River Road. Reach out by phone or email, or set up a time to talk through where your tax, retirement, and real estate decisions overlap.
Ready to see how the pieces connect?
A first conversation is a chance to talk through what matters most to you and understand where tax, retirement, and real estate decisions may overlap in your own plan.
Tax awareness
Brandon reviews your tax return to understand what’s shaping your current tax picture, then looks for planning opportunities ahead of upcoming decisions. As a CPA, he works directly from the return rather than around it.
Retirement and investment management
Deciding when and how to draw retirement income affects your taxes, your Social Security, and your long-term plan. Portfolios are managed as part of that same plan, with attention to your full financial picture rather than as a standalone piece.
Real estate planning
Property sales, inherited real estate, and business succession all carry tax consequences. Brandon draws on real estate experience to help clients understand what a transaction means before it happens.
Have questions about how this applies to you?
Every financial picture is different. Let’s talk through yours.
A personal CFO approach to retirement.
Brandon Olson, CPA, founded Olson Strategic Wealth after more than a decade helping retirees and pre-retirees coordinate tax planning, investment management, and real estate decisions. His background includes public accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers, a role as CFO of a $150 million company, and years of direct experience in real estate transactions. That combination shapes how he works with clients: not as a portfolio manager alone, but as someone who looks at the tax return, the retirement accounts, and the real estate holdings together before recommending a next step.

The best way to understand the approach is to talk about your own situation.
Brandon often compares traditional tax preparation to riding in the back seat of a station wagon facing backward. It’s useful for understanding what already happened, but it doesn’t help you see what’s coming. Olson Strategic Wealth is built around the opposite view: understanding your tax situation, retirement accounts, and real estate as a way to plan the road ahead, not just account for the road behind. That’s the idea behind the firm’s approach: three disciplines, considered together, as one roadmap.
-
Step 1
Understand you first
Before any recommendations, the process starts with understanding what matters most to you, your goals, your concerns, and what you’re hoping retirement or your next chapter looks like. Financial details come next.
-
Step 2
Build the roadmap
Brandon reviews your tax situation, retirement accounts, investments, and any real estate involved together, looking for how decisions in one area may affect another, and where planning opportunities exist.
-
Step 3
Live it, and adjust as life changes
A roadmap isn’t fixed. As circumstances change, whether it’s a new car, a real estate transaction, or a shift in retirement income needs, the plan is revisited so decisions continue to fit the bigger picture.
Forward-looking expertise
Planning happens before decisions create tax, investment, or real estate consequences, not after.
Strategic integration
Tax, retirement, investments, and real estate are reviewed as connected pieces rather than separate silos.
Value over numbers
The goal is understanding what your money allows you and your family to do, not just tracking a balance.
Real experience, real relationships
Brandon’s background across tax, business, and real estate informs the advice, not just his credentials.
Fiduciary commitment
As a fiduciary, Brandon is obligated to act in clients’ best interest.

Every plan starts with a conversation about where things stand today.
Start a conversation.
Call, email, or schedule a time that works for you. A first conversation is a chance to talk through what matters most to you and where the pieces of your plan connect.
Not sure where to start?
Bring the question you have been putting off. Pages one and two of a tax return are often enough to see where the pieces of a plan connect.
Brandon Olson, CPA, has experience as a corporate CFO and years of direct real estate experience, in addition to his work as an investment advisor representative. That means investment management, retirement planning, and other financial considerations are evaluated together to support a more comprehensive financial strategy.
Yes. As an Investment Advisory Representative, Brandon is held to a fiduciary standard, meaning he is obligated to act in clients’ best interest.
Alongside investment management, Olson Strategic Wealth works with clients on retirement income planning, tax awareness, and real estate related decisions, including property sales, inherited property, and business succession considerations.
A tax return can provide valuable context for understanding a client’s overall financial picture. Drawing on his background as a CPA, Brandon can better understand how information reflected on a tax return relates to retirement income, Social Security, and investment decisions as part of the financial planning process.
Many advisors focus on investment management alone. Brandon’s process starts by looking at how your tax situation, retirement accounts, and any real estate you hold connect, which can surface planning opportunities that a portfolio-only review might not.
Yes. While many clients come to Olson Strategic Wealth as they approach or enter retirement, the firm also works with business owners and individuals navigating a real estate transaction, inheritance, or other major financial decision earlier in their careers.
The first conversation is focused on understanding your goals and current situation, not on making recommendations. From there, Brandon can outline what a planning relationship might look like and what information would be useful to review.
Meeting frequency is based on client preference, and can range from once to several times a year. Outside of scheduled meetings, clients can reach out with questions about a specific decision, such as a major purchase or a tax question, as they come up.

Brandon P. Olson, CPA
Founder, Olson Strategic Wealth
I grew up on my family’s turkey farm in a small Utah community, one of six boys and one girl. My dad taught us to manage money early. By 12, I was earning a paycheck and putting most of it into savings. That early lesson in responsibility stuck with me.
I went on to become a CPA and spent the early part of my career in corporate tax work at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Three months into that career, my late wife was diagnosed with brain cancer while pregnant with our second child. That experience reshaped how I think about what money is for. It’s not the balance in an account. It’s what it allows you to do for the people you care about.
Later, I became CFO of a $150 million company, an experience that shifted how I approach financial decisions. Instead of only looking backward at what already happened, the way tax preparation often does, I learned to look forward and ask what a decision means for what comes next. I call myself a personal CFO for that reason. I bring that same forward-looking approach to retirement planning, tax awareness, and real estate decisions for the clients I work with.
Outside the office, I spend time outdoors with my family, hunting, fishing, and exploring the landscape around southern Utah. I’ve come to believe that money’s real value shows up in the experiences and relationships it supports, not in the number on a statement.
